Bangor University required a clear, practical framework to support community groups across Wales in establishing viable lobster hatcheries. While interest in community led aquaculture was growing, there was no single resource bringing together the complex mix of technical design, regulatory requirements, startup costs, and long term operational planning.
The challenge was to translate specialist hatchery knowledge into an accessible, real world guide, helping non experts understand what it truly takes to deliver a successful, compliant, and financially sustainable hatchery project, from site selection and system design through to staffing, governance, and long term operation.
